A Procession of Eucharistic Devotion
“Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” — John 6:56
These powerful words of Christ, recorded in the Gospel of John, form the very heart of the solemnity of Corpus Christi.
At St. Bridget’s Convent, the tradition of honouring the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ through a sacred procession has long been a cherished part of the school’s spiritual calendar.
The day began with quiet reverence as each grade from 1 to 5 made their way to the school chapel during the morning hours. There, in the stillness, they spent time in adoration before the exposed Blessed Sacrament, gazing upon the mystery of love made visible.
The afternoon unfolded into a more public expression of faith. In a graceful and reverent procession, the consecrated Host, carried in a monstrance, was borne through the streets encircling the school premises. The path was sanctified by hymns and heartfelt prayers as the entire school community journeyed in unison with the Living Bread who came down from heaven.
The first repository was prepared in the St. John Eudes Hall of the Collegiate School. The Eucharistic procession paused here for a moment of solemn worship and benediction, with Rev. Fr. Asitha presiding.
The second repository was at the Primary School. Our first graders scattered petals in a loving gesture of welcome, creating a carpet of flowers for the Eucharistic Lord. At this station, Rev. Fr. Nadeeka presided over the benediction, inviting all present into deeper adoration.
The final repository was set at the convent parlour, where the concluding benediction was imparted by Rev. Fr. Darrel, drawing the procession to a close in an atmosphere of deep peace and thanksgiving.
This sacred tradition is an annual reminder that Christ walks with us—not symbolically, but truly present among us in the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is this mystery that the school reveres, celebrates and lovingly passes on from one generation of Bridgetines to the next.
