In Endless Gratitude
Gratitude filled every corner of our school on 9th October as we gathered to celebrate Teachers’ Day, held in joyful conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of our beloved art teacher, Ms Nilmini Gunaratne.
The ceremony commenced with a moving welcome procession. Each teacher entered bearing a crystal glass filled with vibrant, coloured water, symbolising the unique gifts, distinct personalities and varied talents each educator brings to our school. In a solemn act of unity, these individual streams were poured into a single central vessel, representing the Divine Presence. This poignant gesture beautifully illustrated how our teachers’ individual callings harmoniously blend into a higher purpose under God’s guidance and grace.
Following the procession, the school community united in a prayer service. In thanksgiving for our dedicated teachers, and especially for Ms Nilmini, students offered two of creation’s most beautiful gifts: fragrant flowers and glowing light.
In a special tribute to Ms Nilmini’s twenty-five years of service, students presented symbolic elements of nature, including leaves, flowers, fruit, birds and butterflies. Each offering represented one of the ten virtues that Ms Nilmini has so lovingly and patiently cultivated in the hearts of her students throughout her years of service. As these tokens were adorned upon a bare, waiting tree, its branches blossomed into vibrant life and colour, perfectly mirroring how her guidance brings forth beauty and character in every young life she touches.
Adding further depth to the service, a reenactment of the Parable of the Talents reminded us all of the sacred calling of teaching. It served as a beautiful reflection on how our teachers actively multiply their own gifts through constant dedication, inspiring their students to do the same. The prayer service concluded on a solemn and reflective note.
The celebrations continued as the stage came alive with music, dance and heartfelt tributes. The spotlight shone warmly on Ms Nilmini as the school community celebrated twenty-five years of her gentle encouragement and artistic inspiration.
On this memorable day, one message resonated deeply: a teacher’s calling is a sacred trust, entrusted in hope and nurtured with patience, leaving an imprint that ripples across generations.
