A Dreamy Trip to Paris
Children’s Day 2024 at St. Bridget’s Convent Primary School was celebrated in spectacular fashion with the imaginative theme: A Trip to Paris. Each child was handed a boarding pass, which they eagerly presented at check-in, ready to embark on this whimsical journey. With wide-eyed wonder, the students fastened their ‘seatbelts’ using ribbons secured to their chairs, fully immersing themselves in the excitement of take-off.
The students were ushered aboard by a few of our teachers, elegantly dressed as flight attendants, who greeted them with a cheerful ‘Bonjour!’ The flight then metaphorically ascended, whisking them away to the magical city of Paris.
While mid-air, they were entertained by a series of delightful performances, thoughtfully put together by their teachers, making the journey even more enchanting.
Our Chief Guest, Mrs. Shinali Tissera, the first female engineer in aircraft maintenance at Sri Lankan Airlines, delivered an inspiring address. She not only highlighted her pioneering achievements but also spoke about daring to dream big. Her story of breaking barriers and overcoming obstacles left each student feeling inspired and empowered.
Amid this joyful flight, we encountered a symbolic moment of turbulence, setting the stage for an electrifying performance by the parents. Their presence served as a poignant reminder of the unwavering support that parents provide, guiding their children through life’s challenges, much like a reassuring hand through turbulent skies.
The school choir then took our ‘passengers’ on a musical journey, serenading them with a lively medley. As the flight circled over Paris, the students were introduced to iconic Parisian landmarks, and their newfound knowledge was put to the test in an engaging quiz. The proud winners were awarded prizes, much to their delight.
The journey came to a rousing conclusion as the flight made its way homeward. The song “We Are the World” played, reminding us all that our children are the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow.
Upon disembarking, the fun was far from over. The children were let loose on bouncy castles, danced exuberantly with friends, and indulged in delicious treats from the food stalls.
We owe a heartfelt thank you to our Principal, Rev. Sr. Dilrukshika Silva, whose creative vision was the inspiration behind this novel concept for Children’s Day. It was a day that didn’t just celebrate childhood; it celebrated the endless potential within each child.
The celebrations wrapped up in a spirit of laughter and joy, and each child left school that day with a beaming smile and fond memories to cherish.
